1 Deputy Minister For Local Govt Not Enough! Increase The Number of Your Ministers!! – Mahama Told

Deputy Minister for Local Government under the Akufo-Addo regime, Vincent Ekow Assafuah says President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to use 60 Ministers to administer the nation will be a huge burden noting some Ministries demand more than one Deputy Minister.
According to him, some Ministries come with huge task, hence it must have more than a Deputy Minister.
Citing the Local Government which today has been changed to Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Ekow Assafuah asserted that this Ministry must have at least two Deputies stressing their duties are huge and difficult for just a Minister and a Deputy to execute.
Sharing his experience, he explained that during his era, he was tasked to deal with the various assemblies and address their concerns among other responsibilities.
This, he emphasized, is not something to joke with for President Mahama to appoint one Deputy Minister for such Ministry.
“You can clearly see that inherently the Ministry is huge. It is big…that I don’t think that one deputy Minister can handle the Ministry of Local Government. I disagree with President Mahama if thinks one deputy Minister is enough Ministry of Local Government”, he remarked during “Kokrokoo” panel discussion programme on Peace FM.
He also listed the Finance Ministry stating this Ministry’s mandate is equally humongous, hence called on the President to have a second look at his promise.
He suggested President Mahama should increase the number of his Ministers to at least 65 for a better administration.
“Look at the Ministry of Finance. To have one deputy Minister for Ministry of Finance, His Excellency President Mahama, you have indeed promised but have a deeper reflection on some of these things.”
He believed Ghanaians would understand him (Mahama) if he increases the size of ministerial appointees.
