2024 Election: NPP’s Defeat Was SEALED In 2022 – Mussa Dankwah

Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has diagnosed the main cause of the defeat of the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.

The NPP led by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was beaten mercilessly by the current President John Dramani Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the latter polled 57 percent to win the presidential election.

The President also records over 180 Members of Parliament, the highest number ever in parliamentary representation under the 4th Republic.

Several factors have been cited for the NDC’s landslide victory with some analysts stating the former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s behavior towards Chiefs and people of the country as a major part contributing to the NPP’s defeat.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Mussa Dankwah, whose polls pointed to the victory of John Mahama, shared light on some significant discoveries.

He disclosed the main thing that caused the previous government‘s downfall was economic crisis.

He explained that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration lost the elections way back in 2022 as they started to make decisions that compounded the plight of Ghanaians.

“…it was largely the economy and the economy takes longer to turn around. You see, if you implement a policy in this financial year, the effect of it will begin to be felt next year. So, I believe in 2022, if they had done something significant that would have changed the economic trajectory of the country by 2023, they would have had a very good chance to compete.

“And I think the full economic IMF reforms I think happened in somewhere end of 2022, so the pain begins to hit the people in 2023, the COVID and co didn’t make things better; at that point, I think it was lost because if the economy was the central issue for many voters and where the economy was and how people were feeling…cost of living, I think that was the most thing that really drove the government out”, he narrated.

He also expressed worry that the NPP ignored his findings because, to him, if they had paid a little attention to him, they would have been guided to do things differently.

Although, he stressed, there wasn’t much the party could have done to change the outcome of election, his findings however have boosted their figures higher than the 41 percent they got in the elections.

He further pinned the blame on Akufo-Addo stressing “since 2022, he has been very unpopular”, hence NPP’s defeat was cast in stone.
