2024 Elections: ‘I Felt Pity For Bawumia’…Akufo-Addo ‘Destroyed’ Him – Mussa Dankwah

Mussa Dankwah says the New Patriotic Party lost the 2024 elections largely because of Ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Nana Addo became “very unpopular” with Ghanaians in 2022, majorly resulting from the COVID pandemic.
To him, many of Nana Addo’s decisions and his Finance Minister’s worsened the hardships of Ghanaians.
He noted during an interview on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show Monday morning that what cemented the NPP’s election defeat was Akufo-Addo’s adamant posture to let Ken Ofori-Atta go and his failure to listen to Ghanaians’ complaints about the infamous E-Levy (electronic tax) among other things.
“…the blame goes to Nana Addo. About 80 percent of voters blame Nana Addo for NPP’s loss and that’s quite huge. And then secondly, Bawumia, not for his campaign performance but his tie to Nana Addo; he couldn’t distance himself from Nana Addo…and if you recall, those mate arguments was because he was trying to, in the minds of people, to move away from Nana Addo. That would have helped if people had believed in him but because they didn’t believe that, they didn’t buy into that.”
He however stressed the NPP’s bad luck in the general elections had little to do with the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidacy.
“In terms of personally blaming him for the campaign loss, I think he ranks like 4th in the level of tier for blaming as a person…Ofori-Atta comes 3rd before Bawumia.”
He continued; “Sometimes, I felt pity for Bawumia, honestly speaking. I did. You could see the man’s energy on the campaign but it was all destroyed.”
He argued that the Akufo-Addo factor didn’t help Bawumia because “it was his (Nana Addo) legacy and record that Bawumia has run on and the experience people had at the time wasn’t good”.
