Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

The President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, effective Thursday July 18, 2024.

The decision to resign, according to the Energy Minister in a letter dated 11th July, 2024, is due to the need for him to step down from his office to concentrate on his new role and honour as Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party and assume the responsibilities thereof.

“I have come to the difficult decision to step down from my role in order to concentrate on the new role and honour bestowed on me”, he said in his resignation letter.

He continued; “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as both Minister for Education and Minister for Energy”

A response letter from the President said; “In the circumstances I accept your resignation as I know that you are going to play another vital role in the fortunes of our party, the New Patriotic Party”

“ I want to express my profound gratitude and appreciation for the exemplary work you have done in my government both as Minister for Education and Minister for Energy. I wish you God’s blessings in all your future endeavours.”
