US President Joe Biden Steps Down; Endorses Vice Prez Kamala Harris 4 Months Into Elections
US President Joe Biden has announced he’s withdrawing from the country’s November 5 elections to be the next President.
This decision is as a result of mounting pressure from his party, the Democrats, after he was reported to have contracted COVID-19 and also due to his feeble state.
Joe Biden says his decision “is in the best interest of my party and the country”.
Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris, the Vice President, to be the new Democratic nominee for the elections.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this”, he wrote on Facebook.
The 81-year old President however noted that he will remain in position for the final six months of his term while Kamala Harris takes over from him.
