Ambulance case: Not Even ‘Antoa’ Can Save You – Ato Forson’s Lawyer Replies A-G
Edudzi Tamakloe, the legal counsel for Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is confident there is nothing that Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, can do to overturn the verdict of the Court of Appeal on the ambulance case involving his client and one other, Richard Jakpa.
An Accra Court of Appeal has reportedly acquitted Ato Forson who was accused by the Attorney-General of financial malfeasance resulting from the purchase of some ambulances for Ghana.
The two, Ato Forson and Jakpa, were said to have caused the State a financial loss of €2.37 million and were arraigned before an Accra High Court.
The Minority Leader filed for a no case which was turned down by the High Court but in the Appeal’s Court led by Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo and Justice Philip Bright Mensah, won his case by 2:1 majority ruling with Justice Alex Poku Acheampong dissenting to this decision.
The Court of Appeal ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case for the Minority Leader to answer.
In response, the Attorney-General describes the verdict as “perverse in the quest for public accountability and the rule of law. The decision clearly is heavily against the weight of the cogent evidence led by the prosecution in substantiation of all the charges against the accused persons at the trial”.
Ato Forson’s lawyer, replying the Attorney-General, says his client is innocent and labeled the A-G’s suit against him as “persecution”.
Edudzi Tamakloe believed no matter what lawyer Godfred Dame does, his client will always come out victorious.
“I’ve always believed in the innocence of my client [Dr Cassiel Ato Forson] and I can tell you, whether Supreme Court or Antoa or Nogokpo, my client will he vindicated”, he said in interview on Joy News.
