22 Independent Candidates Contesting This Year’s Elections…Are We Serious? – Senior Researcher Left In Shock

Professor Smart Sarpong, a Senior Researcher at the Kumasi Technical University, has expressed shock at the number of indpendent candidates contesting this year’s persidential elections.

According to his research, twenty-two (22) people, of which two are women, have popped up to go independent, hence awaiting to file their nomination.

Prof. Smart Sarpong, disclosing this on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, found the number ridiculous wondering the adverse impact this could have on the December 7 polls.

“Assuming they all pass the process, we are going to have 34 presidential candidates on the ballot paper. Are we not ridiculous? Are we serious?”

To Prof. Sarpong, this number needs to be cut down, stating before one’s name appears on the ballot paper, it should be part of the requirements for such an individual to have proof of service to his or her community.

“He wants to lead must first serve, must be seen to have served. So, serve in your own small way…To the presidential independent candidates who want to lead, they must demonstrate to us the level of service they have done to their people”

“It is not the numbers we want but those who have demonstrable willingness or qualities to serve their people. If that is there, then we must see clear evidence of the developmental projects you have made in your community”, he exclaimed.
