24-Hour Economy Is Demand-Driven, Not By Force – Kabilla Replies Mahama

James Kwabena Bomfeh

Former CPP General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called “Kabilla”, has criticized the 24-hour economy policy by fomer President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC presidential candidate, John Mahama, on Saturday, 24th August 2024, at the University of Education, Winneba Campus, launched the NDC 2024 Manifesto telling Ghanaians what he intends to do for them if re-elected President.

He outlined some policies including eliminating betting tax and E-Levy, introducing a 3-shift 24-hour economy strategy, removing ex-gratia under Article 71, instituting a tuition free system for first year tertiary students among others.

Regarding the 24-hour economy, Mahama stated; “Hospitality industry; our restaurants, our discotheques, our night clubs, our hotels, 24/7, 24 hours a day.”

But to Kabilla, 24-hour economy is not a policy but a dispensation, explaining that just as the world is currently in a digital age, so there came a time that the world went 24 hours economic system and it was dependent on demand.

Kabilla, contributing to Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning programme, replied Mahama stating 24-hour economy “is demand-driven, not by force”.
