No Developed Economy Will Survive Without Functional Address Systems – Bawumia
The Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stressed the significance of a digital address system in a modern economy.
Dr. Bawumia has championed a robust digital address system for Ghana in the past seven years but critics downplayed its significance and the Vice President’s devotion to it.
Addressing community stakeholders at Dome-Kwabenya Constituency on Thursday, August 29, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the digital address system and the national identity system is the catalyst for development, hence the backbone of developed countries which emerging economies like Ghana cannot avoid.
Dr. Bawumia reinforced his commitment to building strong foundations to make Ghana a modern economy.
“When we came into office, Ghana was not having an address system that was working throughout the country. But an address system is one of the most important elements for any economy.”
“An address system is so important. Today, if you go to the United States and you collapse their address system; just erase it, if you could, that economy will collapse because you can’t function. The businesses cannot function without an address system.”
“I wrote this in my book, 14 years ago, that we need an address system so when we came in and I looked at the street address we were doing. I realized that it would take us such a long time to do it, so I said let’s have a digital address system and now we have it.”
“Ghana is the second country in the whole world to have a national digital address system. It is a very comprehensive system and every property in Ghana, whether in the village or in the city, has a property address system and that is very key.”
