U-20 Women’s World Cup: Black Princesses Aim To Break Group Stage Curse
Ghana will begin their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup journey against Austria on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the El Techo Stadium in Bogota.
The Black Princesses, fresh off their gold medal win at the African Games, have been in Colombia since August 14, preparing for their seventh consecutive World Cup appearance.
They played two crucial friendlies, drawing 0-0 with Mexico and 2-2 with South Korea, which provided valuable experience ahead of the tournament.
Coach Yussif Basigi has a fully fit squad, featuring key players like captain Stella Nyamekye, Afi Amenyeku, Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah and Comfort Yeboah, all instrumental in their African Games success. Basigi is confident his team is ready to battle for every point.
The primary goal for Ghana this time is to break their group stage curse, having been eliminated at this stage in all their previous six appearances.
This group of players is determined to change that narrative.
The match against Austria will kick off at 22:00 GMT, which is 10:00 PM local time in Ghana.
