Galamsey Is ‘Life Or Death’…We’re In Serious Trouble – Nana Ohene Ntow

Nana Ohene Ntow, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has expressed disappointment over government’s failure to fight against galamsey.

Galamsey has over the years become the misery of the nation with those involved contaminating the water bodies and environment.

Due to galamsey (illegal mining) activities, the country’s rivers have become unsafe for consumption.

The Ghana Water Company Ltd has issued a warning about an impending danger.

“About Sixty percent (60%) of the catchment capacity is silted as a result of illegal mining (galamsey) compromising the quality of raw water. We are currently recording an average turbidity of 14,000 NTU instead of 2000 NTU designed for adequate treatment”, the company cautioned.

Nana Ohene Ntow found President Nana Akufo-Addo not committed to the combat against illegal mining.

“This is a matter of life and death. I call it life and death because of its contamination of our drinking water and food. If galamsey has become a legacy problem, then we are in serious trouble”, he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
