Dec 7 Polls: Refrain From Declaring Results Ahead Of EC – Akufo-Addo Cautions Parties
President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admonished the political parties not to usurp the authority of the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the election results.
The President cautioned the parties against inciting their followers by going ahead of the EC.
He reminded them of the sole responsibility of the Commission to declare winner of the elections stating “it is imperative that the Electoral Commission remains the sole authority responsible for declaring election results, to preserve the integrity and credibility of the electoral process”.
He also charged the security agencies to effectively play their role before, during and after the elections.
“They should ensure that they act within the confines of the law, protecting the rights of all citizens while preventing any form of violence or intimidation by enforcing strictly the law against vigilantism”, he stated.
President Nana Addo made these remarks at the annual conference of the Ghana Bar Association held in Kumasi yesterday.
The event was attended by legal practitioners, Justices, political and legal luminaries as well as Ministers of State.
