Dec 7 Elections: EC Clears 13 Candidates; 11 Disqualified
The Electoral Commission has released a list of qualified candidates to contest this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Commission, in a statement, noted that it engaged in a thorough examination after the filing of nomination forms by the contenders which included candidates of political parties and independent candidates.
On the list, 13 candidates have been cleared for the upcoming elections and 11 disqualified.
Those who qualify to be on the ballot paper include the presidential candidates of the two largest parties, the New Patriotic Party whose candidate is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the National Democratic Congress with John Dramani Mahama as their leader.
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change, and Nana Kwame Bediako, New Force leader, also qualify to contest as independent candidates.
Among the names disqualified for the elections are Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention, Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party and other independent candidates.
