Go To Court If You Feel EC Hasn’t Been Fair To You – Atik Tells Bernard Mornah

Bernard Mornah

Atik Mohammed, a former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has encouraged the flagbearer of his former party to seek legal redress over their disqualification from the upcoming elections.

The Electoral Commission disqualified the PNC on grounds that their flagbearer, Bernard Mornah’s nomination forms were full of mistakes that made the party ineligible to contest the presidential and parliamentary elections.

But Bernard Mornah has refuted the EC’s claim and pledged to resort to legal means.

“It is a terrible afternoon but you can be assured that I am a fighter and I will fight this to the end, I will not accept this kind of disrespect and we will not accept the fact that the electoral commission does not want to play according to the rules.”

“I have already asked my lawyers, Atuguba and Associates, and they have written to the EC. When we saw some other political parties’ letter calling for balloting today, I notified my lawyers to write to the EC to find out why we have not been invited. We are talking about EC that has not completed the register and they talking about people”, he said in an interview with TV3.

Responding to Bernard Mornah, Atik Mohammed stated; “I’ve made a point that some of the parties, they need dissolution and reconfiguration but I can’t still understand his disqualification. But I am happy that he says he will go to court and I will encourage him to so do because this is a democracy. If he feels strongly about his case, I believe he should resort to the court.”

He also noted “if it (EC) turns out that others were given consideration and he wasn’t, I don’t think it will be fair and going into this election, the EC must be fair and must be seen to be fair as well”.

Atik hoped for the best for Bernard Mornah and the PNC saying “I wish him well and I wish the PNC well even though I’ve always said that they need serious reorganization”.
