There’s No Galamsey Pit In Accra – Allotey Jacobs Replies Demonstrators
Bernard Allotey Jacobs has told those going on demonstration over galamsey to do so in the galamsey communities.
Galamsey (illegal mining) has become a serious matter of concern to Ghanaians with the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, come under pressure to declare a state of emergency.
Also, a group called Democracy Hub on Friday, September 20, hit the streets of 37 Military Hospital in protest.
Addressing the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Allotey Jacobs rebuked the demonstrators saying “there is no galamsey pit in Accra…The essence of demonstration is when you demonstrate at those galamsey pit areas. Look, they will not feel it if you demonstrate in Accra making noice and wielding placards”.
To him, demonstrations on galamsey will change nothing as it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem.
“An effective way of stopping galamsey is for those who have decided to demonstrate to go to the galamsey areas, demonstrate to the people who are in the pit.”
“It’s not when it is left with two months and half to elections that you will come and demonstrate. We have made politics out of it. So, both NDC and NPP members involved in galamsey, they’ve gone scot free. That’s what is happening in this country”, he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
