Oliver Barker-Vormawor Denied Bail Again While Ama Governor, Others Get GHC 70k Bail

Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, activist and convener of the Democracy Hub, continues to be remanded after up to 12 other protesters received bail.

The protesters who were arrested for engaging in illegal activities during their demonstration which aimed to call for an end to galamsey were sent to court and subsequently remanded into Police custody for 2 weeks.

Over 50 including Oliver Barker-Vormawor were taken back by the Police after they were refused bail in their initial court appearance.

He was captured during the protest removing the keys to a police van that had parked.

An Accra High Court has now slapped the protesters with GHc 70,000 bail each with two sureties.

Those granted bail include Lawyer Elorm Ama Governor-Ababio, popularly called Ama Governor.

Unfortunately, Oliver Barker-Vormawor is not among these group of persons.

The court presided over by Justice Comfort Tasiame denied his bail application, citing the need for further investigation and concerns about the possibility of public unrest if he were released.

According to the judge, Oliver is already standing trial on treason charges, therefore there’s no assurance that he will not commit another offence if he is granted bail.
