Return To Parliament In Peace – Opanyin Agyekum ‘Begs’ MPs
Professor Kofi Agyekum has urged the Members of Parliament to return to the Legislative House ensuring peace.
The Parliamentarians will reconvene on Thursday, November 7 following their impasse.
The House had been suspended indefinitely by the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, after the Minority claimed the majority chamber while the Majority boycotted the House to avoid confrontations.
This happened because the Speaker declared four seats vacant, hence the Minority insisting on assuming the majority position.
However, the Supreme Court has ordered a stay of the Speaker’s decision and subsequently quashed the latter’s application to overturn the court ruling.
This resulted in the indefinite suspension of the House but the House is expected to gather on Thursday.
Commenting on the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Professor Kofi Agyekum, affectionately called “Opanyin Agyekum”, advised the MPs not to repeat their seeming kerfuffle between them as they return to their chambers.
He stated that both caucuses should be mindful of their actions stressing the significance of continuing parliamentary business without causing any furhter confusion.
The Head of Linguistics at the University of Ghana pleaded with the MPs stating “my prayer is for them to return in peace. There is no time; this period is very short…So, they should allow peace to prevail among them. As they return to the House, they should note that it will be undignifying for this nation for them to go back and spark commotion. They should live up to their honorable tag”.
