Did You Expect Kufour To Turn His Back On NPP Like You Did? – Alan Quizzed
Nana Akomea, the Deputy Chairman of Bawumia’s campaign team, has reacted to Alan Kyerematen’s remarks targeted at Ex-President and venerable Statesman, J.A Kufour.
The leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, in an interview, slammed Mr. Kufour for declaring his support for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, Kufour’s endorsement of Bawumia will be a big blot on his political reputation.
In an interview with selected journalists on Sunday, 17 November, former President Kufuor called on Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia in the December elections, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the nation.
The former President emphasized that, given the current global circumstances, he believes Bawumia’s presidency could significantly improve Ghana’s economy.
“Considering the present global context, I genuinely believe that Ghana’s economy would witness substantial growth if Bawumia were elected as President.”
“With divine guidance, he is more than capable of fulfilling this promise, and I urge you to back his candidacy.”
“I have observed his remarkable economic skills during my presidency when he was an essential part of the Bank of Ghana’s team under Governor Dr Paul Acquah, helping to stabilize the national currency”, Kufuor stated.
But to Alan who spoke on Oyerepa TV on Monday, 18 November, Kufuor is venturing into dangerous territory.
“Kufuor is my uncle, and I hesitate to publicly criticize him.”
“However, his endorsement has cast a significant shadow over his political career. Have you noticed how his comments have sparked negative reactions and criticism from the public?”
“He has long been a respected figure in Ghana, so why would he choose to involve himself in partisan politics in this manner? His actions are regrettable, and he is venturing into dangerous territory”, Kyerematen said.
Responding to Alan’s assertions during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Nana Akomea recalled the days when he (Alan) received massive support from Kufour.
He noted that Kufour has been very instrumental in the life and political career of Alan Kyerematen, appointing him to significant positions under his regime, hence found it unfortunate that he would turn to attack his benefactor.
Nana Akomea, reminding Alan that Ex-President Kufour is a staunch member of the New Patriotic Party, asked “who did you want him to support?”
He further sought to find out from Alan if he expected former President “Kufour who has become the respected ‘old woman’ in the party” to “turn his back on the party like my elderly brother did”.
Nana Akomea maintained that there is nothing wrong with Kufour endorsing Bawumia.
