Election 2024: Kwesi Pratt Fears Security Officers Could Be Compromised!

Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has condemned the sharing of food to voters at the Ayawaso West Wuogon during the Special Voting on Monday, December 2.

Throngs of security and media personnel were involved in the Special Voting as 12 candidates including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, leader of the Movement for Change, Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen and Nana Kwame Bediako alias IamFreedom or Cheddar, leader of the New Force.

The Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt found the behavior of the Member of Parliament, Lydia Alhassan who shared the food packs to the participants, distasteful and a breach of electoral rules.

He expressed fears that such conduct could result in electoral malpractices in that the electorates could swap the ballot paper with an already stamped ballot for a specific candidate.

Mr. Pratt even more dreaded the scenario where security officers are receiving foods to cast their vote, hence they could be compromised in the delivery of their duties.

“Is it not those responsible for enforcing the laws breaking the laws themselves? So, what is the hope that they will comply with the rules?”, he questioned.

He made these submissions on Peace FM’s”Kokrokoo” show.

Denial

However, Lydia Alhassan has denied the allegations of distributing items to voters at a polling station during the special voting exercise.

In an interview with JoyNews addressing the claims, Lydia Alhassan said she was not even at the said polling station when the development reportedly ensued.

“I wasn’t here. I don’t know if you saw me here. I’ve been here since… I came here before 6 am, and I left here a few minutes ago, I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”

“I am yet to find out from them what happened.”
