NPP Expels Cynthia Morrison And 279 Others

Cynthia Mamle Morrison

The leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled Cynthia Mamle Morrison together with other 279 members of the party.

Their expulsion from the NPP follows numerous allegations that these members broke party rules to support Ms. Morrison in her bid to contest the just-ended December 2024 elections as an independent candidate after losing the party’s internal primaries.

In a letter issued by the constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the expelled members were duly informed ahead of time that they were no longer recognised as members of the NPP, adding that they are barred from holding any party position, participating in party events, or using the NPP’s symbols and flag.

Ms. Morrison’s decision to run as an independent candidate reportedly garnered the support of some constituency executives, polling station executives, and ward coordinators, a situation which is contrary to the tenets of the party’s constitution.

The party’s decision to expel defunct members underscores its commitment to enforcing discipline within its ranks and addressing acts of defection that could undermine the party’s unity.
