Stop Turning Your Investigations Into A ‘Media Circus’; Go To Court If… – Nana Akomea Replies A-G

Former Chief Executive of the InterCity State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea has advised the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine asking that he stops using press conferences to address his allegations of corruption against individuals.

The Attorney-General, on Monday, March 24, held a press conference briefing the public about his investigations.

He alleged several things against some officials of the previous government; one of such people is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene.

Adu Boahene has been cited by the Attorney-General in a $7 million cyber defense system contract aimed to strengthen Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent and respond to cyber threats, data breaches and digital espionage.

Ayine claims Adu Boahene misappropriated State funds to enrich himself and finance his wife’s luxury life.

“In his capacity as Director of the National Signals Bureau, Mr. Adu-Boahene on January 30, 2020, signed a contract on behalf on the Government of Ghana and the National Security on one hand and on the other hand, an Israeli company named RLC Holdings Limited. The contract was for the purchase of a cyber defense system software at a price of $7 million.

“On February 6, 2020, he then transferred an initial amount of GH¢27,100,000 from the National Signals Bureau account at Fidelity Bank to a private BNC account at UMB. Official documentation on the transfer reveals that the amount was for the payment of cyber defense system software. He transferred the money to his private company”,  he recounted.

But Nana Akomea wonders why the Attorney-General is so quick to put out inadequate information as the latter, while speaking to the media, admitted he hadn’t finalized his investigations.

The former STC boss asked Ayine to “finish the investigations and sent your case to court” and stop turning his investigations into what he described as a “media circus”.

“What we are looking for is prosecution, not speculations”, he further said.

Although backing every effort to clamp down on people involved in corruption, he however believes the A-G’s approach is not the best.

“What is the rush? Then you are making speculations in your press conference saying money was given to a certain Member of Parliament to kill a story, who is that Member of Parliament? If you say you are giving us a full disclosure, then tell it all. Why do you reveal some and conceal others?”, he queried.
