Decongestion Exercise: Whoever Flouts Kumasi Mayor’s Instructions Deserves ‘Beating’ – Yaw Asani Tano To Traders

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Kumasi Mayor

Yaw Asani Tano, a socio-political analyst, has embraced the measures by the current Mayor of Kumasi regarding his decongestion exercise about to take place within the central business district of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has issued a two-week ultimatum to traders operating along pavements to vacate the area or risk facing sanctions which include lashing the traders.

“I have my own military-democratic style which I will be implementing. When we say leave the space, and you don’t leave the space and I get there, and you’re not there and my boys are with me, there and there we will beat you.

“In the middle of Adum, if I’m alone, you will be lucky, but if I’m with my ten boys, in their pick-up with their whips, trust me, we will beat you. If you don’t want to experience that kind of situation, do what is right and lawful.

“This is Otumfoo’s city, this is the garden city of West Africa, and we have to preserve it. If you want the job to be difficult for me, I will let your body feel the difficulty you are giving to me,” he warned.

Following these statements, the Mayor has been subjected to intense criticisms but, to Yaw Asani Tano, this is nothing wrong with the comments.

He argued that this measure by the Mayor is a step in the right direction.

He argued on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning discussion show that “it’s not every time that a person will take minimal force but sometimes, you have to apply that force”.

To him, whoever flouts the Mayor’s instructions deserves the beating.

“It’s a conditional statement he has made…I don’t see anything wrong with it. Instead of bastardizing what he has said, we should rather advise those people on the pavements causing traffic that don’t go and put your works there”, he stated.
