You’re A ‘Dictator’ Pretending To Be A Democrat – Kabilla Slams Kumasi Mayor

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, Kumasi Mayor

James Kwabena Bomfeh, former CPP General Secretary, has taken a swipe at the Mayor of Kumasi over his resolve to flog traders in the central business district of Kumasi.

The Mayor has issued a two-week ultimatum to the traders on the pavements to vacate the area in line with his decongestion exercise.

According to the Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, any person who flouts the order will be lashed.

“I have my own military-democratic style which I will be implementing. When we say leave the space, and you don’t leave the space and I get there, and you’re not there and my boys are with me, there and there we will beat you.

“In the middle of Adum, if I’m alone, you will be lucky, but if I’m with my ten boys, in their pick-up with their whips, trust me, we will beat you. If you don’t want to experience that kind of situation, do what is right and lawful.

“This is Otumfoo’s city, this is the garden city of West Africa, and we have to preserve it. If you want the job to be difficult for me, I will let your body feel the difficulty you are giving to me,” he warned.

But James Kwabena Bomfeh, widely called Kabilla, has condemned this corporal punishment proposal by the Mayor, stressing Ghana is a democratic State.

He argued that the Mayor cannot take matters into his hands, decide to flog the traders but called on him to adopt an approach that will give him the results he desires without subjecting people to this treatment he supposedly finds it to be dehumanizing.

“The moment you introduce flogging as a democrat, you have failed. You are not a democrat. You are a dictator pretending to be a democrat”, Mr. Bomfeh said on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” discussion show.
