Petition To Remove Gertrude Torkornoo: Council of State Has Gravely Disappointed Ghanaians – Nana B
Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, has slammed the Council of State under the Mahama administration over the attempted removal of Chief Justice Her Ladyship Gertrude Torkornoo.
A petition from some individuals calling for the dismissal of the Chief Justice was laid before President John Dramani Mahama who subsequently presented it to the Council of State and a committee has been set up to examine the petition.
While the Chief Justice awaits her appearance before the committee, there are already calls on the President to rescind her suspension.
The Ghana Bar Association has threatened a legal action against the President if he fails to revoke the suspension.
Organized Labor, on Thursday, May 1, also cautioned the President saying “Mr President, this process you have just begun will set the country and our democracy in dangerous, slippery slope from which we may never recover. We advise that you hasten slowly and cautiously”.
They added; “Your decision on this matter will be consequential for our democracy.”
Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately called Nana B, addressing the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, raised serious concerns over the behavior of the Council of State regarding how they have handled the matter.
He wondered why the council which is the advisory body to the President couldn’t advise him against setting such this precedent of trying to remove the Chief Justice.
“The Council of State has disappointed Ghanaians and it saddens me a lot. They are eminent and respected, in fact, they are the ones who must advise the President. I’m so sad by this position”, he exclaimed.
