Cedi Appreciation To US Dollar: ‘Mahama Has Done No Magic’ – Nana B Credits US President Trump
Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, says President John Mahama should be credited for the cedi appreciation against the foreign currencies, particularly the US Dollar.
The Ghanaian Cedi (GHS) has appreciated to GHS 13.47 per US Dollar (USD) as of May 6, 2025, achieving a 7.44% year-to-date gain after a 45.1% depreciation in 2022.
This appreciation of the local currency has brought joy to many Ghanaians with they praising the President on his achievements in his 120 days.
But to Nana Boakye, the cedi going up has nothing to do with President John Mahama’s performance but rather the actions of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.
He explained on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” discussion programme that Trump’s decisions are causing the dollar to struggle.
He stressed “Mahama has done no magic…The government has not done anything magic”.
