‘We Share Your Pain’ – Sports Ministry Tells Ghanaians After AFCON Exit
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has empathized with Ghanaians by sharing their disappointment in the Black Stars and the Ghana Football Association over the team’s early exit from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently happening in Ivory Coast.
Ghana was shown the exit door from the AFCON following the national team’s abysmal performance in their matches against Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
According to a statement by the Youth and Sports Ministry and sighted by Ghmessenger, the Ministry says it shares the pain of the many heartbroken Ghanaians.
“Monday, January 22, 2024, stands as a solemn and sad chapter in our football history, as the Black Stars exited the 2023 AFCON competition in Cote D’Ivoire thereby concluding their journey in the competition.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports profoundly shares the disappointment and devastation echoing through the hearts of millions of Ghanaians and followers of Ghana football both home and abroad”, parts of the statement read.
The Ministry continued; “Regrettably, the recent and continued poor performance of the Black Stars highlights fundamental structural and systemic deficiencies in our football ecosystem and journey. This is such that, despite our unwavering support and considerable investment, leaving no stone unturned, the team has not delivered, and results do not commensurate with efforts and resources invested.”
They therefore have assured the nation that the Black Stars will be restructured to avoid future embarrassments.
“This clearly points to the urgent need for comprehensive diagnosis and restructuring of Ghana football to align with our aspirations in football and beyond.”
