Manhyia ‘Clears’ Wontumi…Warns Accuser To Stop Engaging In Political Issues
The Asanteman Traditional Council has reportedly absolved the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, of any wrongdoing.
The second-highest decision-making body of the Asante Kingdom, whose membership is limited to traditional leaders, had lashed at Chairman Wontumi for failing to honour their summons to appear before them after being accused of making derogatory comments about the Chiefs.
Chairman Wontumi’s trouble with the Chiefs was due to an altercation between him and the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, at the recent vetting of NPP parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti region.
Though Chairman Wontumi denied all accusations leveled against him, he was however invited by the traditional Council for a hearing but failed to honour the invite citing health reasons which the Chiefs also found unconvincing.
He was therefore supposed to appear before the Council today for a verdict to be pronounced on his case.
Earlier today, the Council convened an crucial meeting to decide the fate of Mr. Antwi Boasiako and a report from the meeting says the Council has directed that the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, should vacate his position as the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party for the Manhyia South constituency.
Wontumi’s accuser the Kokosohene is also advised to abstain from bringing political issues to the Manhyia Palace.
