Politicians In Ghana Are ‘Liars’ – Fmr. NDC Chairman Says
Bernard Allotey Jacobs has taken a swipe at Ghanaian politicians, lashing out at them for taking delight in deceiving the citizenry.
According to the former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Ghana’s politics has been soiled with violence and lies on the part of politicians.
He noted that the politicians know many Ghanaians are gullible, therefore would do everything to take advantage of their gullibility to advance their political interests.
Allotey Jacobs, speaking on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”, strongly opined that the way politics is practiced in the country isn’t helping the nation to move forward.
“We’ve disinformed them, misinform, so anything that comes into the political space, there’s a devil in the detail. That is Ghana’s greatest problem because we, the politicians, don’t speak the truth”
“Our type of politics is quite different. It’s either suspicion, violence, win, lose or destroy. That is the African mentality towards the democracy that was introduced by the western world…Due to this, there is no improvement in our politics”, he stated.
He made this point while discussing the opposition National Democratic Congress’ position on the change of election date from December 7 to November.
Election Date Change
The Seventh Day Adventist Church and some Ghanaians have proposed an amendment from Saturday to a Tuesday in the month of November but the National Democratic Congress says it can’t be effective this year, hence asked the Electoral Commission to schedule it in 2028.
“After every election, we sit and consider electoral reforms and we agree on what to do. Since 2020, we have only 9 months to another election and the EC has now come with major changes. No indelible ink and different reforms. When you do that it doesn’t build the confidence of the people in the electoral process”.
“We have returned to IPAC after the Peace Council intervened and now they [EC] are saying they want to change the Election date and that they want to bring a new CI to change the old CI but our concern is why wait till now? You don’t spring surprises on people, what if it doesn’t work and it leads to some disturbances…so that is our position”, the former President John Mahama raised concerns about the election date change.
The EC has however welcomed the petition from the Adventists to reconsider the date.
