‘No One Can Touch Asanteman’ – Otumfuo Declares

The Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has stamped the authority of his kingdom in Ghana and beyond, stating emphatically that nothing nor no person can destroy his kingdom.

The King established this while speaking at a durbar at the Manhyia Palace to mark the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War of 1874 between the Asantes and the British Colonial Army.

The event which occurred on Thursday saw the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his wife in attendance including high-profile persons within the government and from outside Ghana.

Diplomats and British representatives were also present and the Asantehene received back some artefacts which were stolen by the British.

The Asante Monarch, who presides over the Ashanti Region, articulated how powerful the kingdom is.

“Asante is alive. 150 years ago, the whites destroyed this city, but the Golden Stool remained. Various kinds of guns came to Kumasi, but the Golden Stool remained untouched. So far as the Golden Stool remains, no one can touch Asanteman. It is the soul of Asanteman and Nananom used their blood to protect it.”

“You will be overcome if you decide to take out Asante. All those who plot against the kingdom must stop. We live here in love…Politicians must know that power is transient. Use love to rule. If you rely on your power, remember that your time will end soon.”

Further celebrating the Sagrenti War dubbed the “Kuntunkuni” at the Manhyia palace, Otumfuo called for unity among Ghanaians stressing “we (Asantes) respect the laws, and we are all living peacefully in the country. So where from the hatred and the anti-Ashanti agenda”.
