‘Mahama Has Been President Before, Bawumia Hasn’t…Give Him The Opportunity’ – Kwame Pianim Bids For Bawumia

Kwame Pianim, a renowned Ghanaian economist, has asked Ghanaians to give Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the opportunity to lead Ghana as President.

He noted that the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, unlike the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic  Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, hasn’t been President before; therefore he (Bawumia) should be given the benefit of the doubt.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama will be the main contenders in the December presidential polls.

With John Mahama seeking re-election to correct his mistakes and introduce new policies to salvage Ghana’s economy, Dr. Bawumia is soliciting votes to break the eight-year governance cycle.

Kwame Pianim, in an interview on Joy News, appealed for Bawumia’s candidacy disputing arguments that he is distancing himself from the Akufo-Addo administration.

“I don’t think Bawumia is trying to detach himself from it. The message I got from Bawumia is that ‘I was helping my President…But the duty of a Vice President is limited, despite that, you don’t take decisions as Vice President and implement them. You are only supporting the President…Whatever the president decides, that is what you will do, so let’s give Bawumia the benefit of the doubt. Let’s give him an opportunity and see”, he said.

He added; “Mahama has been a president, Bawumia hasn’t so why don’t we give him the chance so we see what he can do?”
