Cover This Year’s Elections With ‘Eagle Eyes’ – Mahama Charges NDC

John Dramani Mahama

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged his party members to be extremely vigilant in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Addressing NDC executives and key stakeholders during his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in Accra, Mahama emphasized the need for the party to watch the elections with “eagle eyes”.

“One of the key things in this election is vigilance, we can do all the campaigning we want, but if we are not vigilant on the day, and we don’t cover every single polling station with eagle eyes. You can do all the beautiful things you can, razzmatazz and in the end, you don’t achieve the target you want”, he said.

It could be recalled that the NDC entered into a legal tussle with the governing New Patriotic Party after the 2020 elections, claiming the latter had rigged the elections.

The case, which was handled by the Supreme Court, at the end, saw the New Patriotic Party and the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, cleared of rigging and legitimized to lead the country.

In order for history not to repeat itself, Mr. Mahama charged the party executives, particularly those in Greater Accra Region, to appoint the right persons as polling agents in this year’s elections.

“Greater Accra Region, we want you to cover all the polling stations with the best party agents. The election directory, you are aware, is conducting some exercises. They’ve been conducting exams for election directors in their constituencies and the regions because we need the best people who understand the electoral system to be able to monitor the elections in the Region.”

He emphasized; “We should not be sentimental with these appointments and appoint the right people.”
