13th African Games: ‘Our Sports Will Never Be The Same Again’ – Ghana’s Sports Minister

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif says the legacy of hosting the 13th African Games in Ghana will positively impact Ghana Sports.

Ghana has attracted rave reviews after building world-class facilities to host the multi-discipline event in Accra and following a successful organization which has attracted applause across the world, the Minister of Sports believes the impact of the games is humongous,

“The 13th African Games, Accra 2023, has come to an end but for us in Ghana, it has just started because the legacy of the 13th African Games lives…For Ghana, the legacy goes beyond the games as the magnificent, multi-purpose infrastructure we have invested at the University of Ghana and Borteyman will have immense impact on our Sports development”, Mustapha Ussif said at the closing ceremony of the African Games.

He continued; “Never in our country’s history, have we had such world-class Sports facilities for multi-Sports disciplines. But thanks to the 13th African Games, Accra 2023, driven by the remarkable vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the commitment of our government, Ghana now possesses these facilities…This is a game changer. And coupled with the regional multi-purpose Sports stadia our government is building across the country, our Sports will never be the same again.”

The Government built many world-class facilities at the Borteyman Sports Complex including three multi-purpose domes for indoor games, tennis courts, an aquatic centre with a separate warm-up pool, a football field, among others.

The government also completed the University of Ghana stadium and built a standard Mundo athletics tracks and a warm-up track as well as the biggest rugby pitch in West Africa.

Aside the construction of these modern facilities, the government also procured equipment for the various Sports disciplines which will be handed over to various federations to aid local Sports development.

“This is the legacy, Mr President, and posterity will never forget your administration’s significant impact on Ghana Sports and contributions to keeping the flame of the African Games burning”, the Minister commended President Nana Addo.
