Abandoned Patient In Forest: Health Ministry Refers Hospital Officials’ ‘Wicked’ Conduct To CID
The Ministry of Health has escalated a case of an alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba in the Central Region to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General.
This decision follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) which uncovered serious breach of health conduct by some employees of the hospital who, according to a statement, planned and evacuated a patient to her death.
The patient (an elderly woman) was transported from the hospital to Ojobi and abandoned in a forest.
In a statement issued by the Health Ministry on Wednesday, October 2, the GHS concluded that the employees “did not act appropriately”, hence the said staff have been recommended for sanctions.
The Ministry has requested the CID and Attorney-General’s assistance in determining the culpability of the staff and “take any further action deemed appropriate”.
