About 90% Of NPP Defeat Was Due To Akufo-Addo – Dr. Otchere-Ankrah

Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a governance analyst and lecturer at the University of Ghana, has blamed former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo solely for the New Patriotic Party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The New Patriotic Party failed to break the eight-year governance cycle they sought for, hence receiving an embarrassing election outcome in the party’s history.

Ghanaians voted massively for President John Dramani Mahama and gave a vast majority of parliamentary membership to the National Democratic Congress.

With over 6 million votes and over 180 MPs, Mr. John Mahama was sworn in as President on January 7, 2025.

Joining a panel discussion on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah stated emphatically that “about 90 percent of the party’s defeat is due to President Akufo-Addo”.

He cited various actions of the Ex-President  such as his adamant refusal to reshuffle his Ministers and his strong opposition to removing for former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, among others as some reasons for the NPP defeat.

He therefore advised the party to revise the notes as they engage in their post-election evaluation.
