Ambulance Purchase Trial: How Will a Probe Help Any Of Us? – Kwesi Pratt On A-G, Jakpa Case
Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has waded into discussions regarding calls for a Committee of inquiry to be constituted to probe the ambulance purchase trial involving the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame.
Richard Jakpa, a third accused in the ambulance purchase trial before the High Court, has claimed the Attorney-General had approached him to help build a case against the Minority Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
During cross-examination by Counsel for the Minority Leader published by myjoyonline, Jakpa was cautioned by the trial judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, to be direct in his responses and avoid wasting the court’s time.
In response to the judge’s caution, the Attorney-General accused Jakpa of defending the Minority Leader.
This accusation prompted Jakpa to reply that the “A-G has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him make a case against A1 and I have evidence for that. If he pushes me, I will open the Pandora’s box”.
“I don’t understand why the A-G will accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself,” Jakpa is quoted as saying in court.
Reacting to the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Kwesi Pratt found the proposal for an inquiry into the case not useful, alluding to similar inquiries that yielded no fruitful results.
He cited the inquiry into the IGP George Akuffo Dampare and some Police officers’ case before a parliamentary Committee that was telecast live for Ghanaians, stressing till date the report hasn’t been released.
To Kwesi Pratt, looking at the trend where a probe becomes futile, he shares no hope that this ambulance purchase trial will be an exception.
“We were here and the IGP issue came up with people calling for a parliamentary probe. Others also said we should do it live on Television. Where is the report? How many months now since they ended sitting? Where is the report?”, he queried.
