Appointments Committee Clash: You’ve Disgraced Your Constituencies…Very Shameful!! – Fmr. Majority Leader Blasts MPs

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has slammed the members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee who resorted to violence on Thursday, January 30, during the vetting of Foreign and Health Ministers-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

Parliament almost turned into a wrestlemania when the minority and majority caucuses came at each other in a violent clash as they disagreed on a decision to vet these appointees.

While the minority insisted the vetting should be postponed, the majority were adamant to continue the process.

This led to the MPs destroying their microphones and tables and almost ended up in trading physical blows.

The Police intervened and restored calm, however, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin has suspended 4 MPs in connection with the incident.

Addressing the matter during an interview on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu found the MPs’ behavior very shameful and a breach of parliamentary conduct.

To him, the parliamentarians have disgraced Ghana and adds their misconduct is a blight on the country’s democracy.

“It’s regrettable, disgraceful and it constitutes an affront to the image and dignity of Parliament. In that regard, it is contemptuous of Parliament…They have disgraced themselves. They have disgraced the constituencies they represent. They have also disgraced the Appointments Committee and Parliament as a whole. So, this is a huge disgrace”, he remarked.
