Atik Calls For Investigation Into Ablakwa’s Source Of Wealth And Others

Socio-political commentator, Atik Mohammed has asked the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team to extend their mandate by encompassing corrupt acts not just involving government officials of previous administration but also look within themselves.
His admonition comes after certain discoveries were made during the vetting of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who chairs the ORAL.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa while being vetted for the position of Foreign Affairs Minister was asked a number of questions by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and during the questioning, it was discovered that the nominee has been residing at Airport Hills, one of the plush and expensive areas in Ghana, as a tenant for over 8 years.
Mr. Okudzeto told the Appointments Committee that he didn’t own his house at Airport Hills, rather he’s been paying rent over the years, hence raising eyebrows over his source of wealth as he noted before the Committee he was a “full-time politician”.
He was then asked by the Minority Leader to present documents listing his entitlements to his properties which he agreed but has failed to make them available to Parliament as disclosed by Mr. Afenyo-Markin in the House.
Commenting on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Atik seemingly sought for investigations into Mr. Ablakwa’s property acquisition, particularly regarding his residence at Airport Hills.
“Ablakwa has done a very good job pursuing issues of public interest but all these show that the (ORAL) compass should go round. It should not be fixated on just one direction. Whoever, whether a prosecutor, inspector or any person, everybody involved must be first checked before we check others or while checking others, they must be checked as well”, he asserted.
