Bawku Conflict: This Must End! – Kwesi Pratt

Kwesi Pratt

Seasoned journalist, Kwesi Pratt has expressed his sentiments over the conflict that has recently arisen at Bawku in the Upper East Region.

Kwesi Pratt wondered why the conflict remains unabated and why the people of the community cannot come to a consensus to ensure peace and stability in the area.

The tension in Bawku has resurfaced with some assailants attacking the residents.

Some persons have reportedly been fatally shot as a result of the conflict, therefore leading the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to meet the residents with the aim of establishing peace.

He assured them his outfit will recruit those who will adhere to his peace talks.

“I am giving them the assurance that they should put down their arms. We have a lot of people in the police service now who came from this area, and we realise that they have helped a lot in the discharge of their duties as officers”, he emphasized.

Clarifying his comment after receiving a backlash, the IGP said; “The assurance we gave to them was that ‘put down your weapons, and when it comes to recruitment, we will give you the advantage to participate, go through the normal process.’ I didn’t say anything wider to maybe shove the requirement, but it looks as if the media is reporting something different; they will go through the normal process.”

Speaking to the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Kwesi Pratt couldn’t fathom why the Bawku conflict keep recurring.

He condemned the violent acts and hoped there will be a lasting solution to it.

“What is happening is terrible and must end immediately”, he stated.

He pleaded with government to “deal with the land disputes and Chieftaincy disputes” to avoid such conflicts.
