Bawumia To Commission His Electric Buses On Wednesday

A number of electric buses (EV) have arrived in the country and are set to begin test operations this week in the capital, Accra, after official commissioning by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The arrival of the EV buses is an early realization of  Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision as he has been advocating for the adoption of electric vehicles in Ghana as his cost-cutting measure.

Earlier this year, Dr. Bawumia announced that, as part of his plans to reduce cost of living, if elected President, he will adopt the use of electric vehicles for public transportation which is cheaper to operate, thus, will reduce the cost of public transportation.

He asserts that operating electric buses in Ghana will significantly reduce cost of transportation between 40 to 50%.

Dr. Bawumia announced plans to start the programme with a pilot in Accra this year and this plan has now been actualized with the arrival of these new buses.

After Wednesday’s launch, the first symbolic trial of the electric buses is scheduled to begin on the Adenta-Accra route and the second batch of the buses expected to arrive early next year will move across the Ashanti Region to the rest of the Regions.
