Bekwai SDA SHS: Police Interrogate Six People

Six people including students are currently assisting with police investigations following a clash that erupted at Bekwai SDA Senior High School in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

The incident, which has left many injured, prompted an emergency meeting of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to tackle the growing tensions.

It is still unclear what triggered the incident on Friday (22 March), but reports say the confrontation escalated on Saturday (23 March) when a day student allegedly mobilised members of the community to launch an attack on boarding students at the school.

The clash resulted in numerous injuries and heightened concerns among residents. A heavy police deployment was deployed to restore calm.

Speaking to Asaase News, Emmanuel Abeka, the public relations officer at the Bekwai Education Directorate said the security council meeting was necessary to avert planned attacks.

“There was some misunderstanding between a day student and a boarder which resulted in a fight and so the day student had his friends outside and so he mobilised them to come and attack the students on Friday but when they came, they were able to attack some of the students. Immediately the administration got to know of what was happening they called in the police, and they [police] came early enough to get things under control,” Abeka narrated.

“Currently they arrested one of the town folks and also some five students are being questioned. As I speak the Municipal Security Council is meeting to find a lasting solution to the matter and so details of the MUSEC meeting and so details of the meeting will be shared subsequently but for now the place is calm and the students are learning. It is important to note that the strike action by the teachers cannot be linked to this development”, he added.
