Black Stars AFCON Exit: ‘Countryman Songo Is Our Hero’
Bernard Allotey Jacobs has expressed disappointment over the performance of the Black Stars and their exit from the African Cup of Nations ongoing in Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars failed to leave an impressive mark in the tournament, hence resulting in the dismissal of their Head Coach, Chris Hughton, and the dissolution of the technical team.
The Ghana Football Association announced following the team’s elimination from the tournament that “Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect”, adding “the Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars. The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars”.
Addressing this fiasco, the former NDC Central Regional Chairman, Allotey Jacobs blasted the Black Stars, saying “their character on the field looks like each one for himself, God for us all. They weren’t playing as a team”.
He however insisted for the nation to “have a sober reflection on how we select our players, how we select our coach” going forward.
Allotey Jacobs also showered praises on TV/Radio Sports Presenter, Patrick Osei-Agyeman, affectionately called “Countryman Songo”, for his critical and passionate continuous critique of the Black Stars and the Ghana Football Association stressing “everything he says is exactly what happens”.
“The hero of the day in Ghana is Countryman Songo”, Allotey concluded while analyzing the national team’s AFCON exit during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” panel discussion show.
He hoped for better measures and structures to be undertaken in revamping the Black Stars.
