Brawl@Appointments Committee: ‘Culprit’ MPs Must Pay For Damaging Tables And Microphones – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea has expressed utter displeasure with the conduct of the Appointments Committee members last Thursday when two ministerial appointees turned up for vetting.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa appointed by President John Mahama to head the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for Health were said to have been “smuggled” in for vetting as the minority accused their colleagues in the majority of ambushing them with these two persons.

The minority caucus complained that these two were not supposed to be vetted on the day and that felt it was unfair as well as a breach of agreement for the majority bench on the Committee to seemingly compell them to vet these Ministers-designate.

Another argument they made is they would have limited time to assess Mr. Ablakwa and Mr. Mintah Akandoh.

But the majority members insisted the vetting must go on resulting in a fierce confrontation as the minority resisted the move.

A near brawl broke out among them but for the timely intervention of the Police.

However, the MPs damaged their tables and microphones during the heated arguments.

Following the incident, many Ghanaians including Nana Akomea, the Chief Executive Officer of the InterCity State Transport Corporation, have reprimanded the MPs, describing their action as reprehensible and a dent on the image of Parliament.

Nana Akomea, reacting to the MPs’ conduct on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, stated categorically that the culprits must pay for the damages.

“They should pay for the damage. It will be not fair to use taxpayers’ money for such damage caused by them”, he said.
