Bryan Acheampong Isn’t The Only Politician To Buy SSNIT Hotel…Cut Him Some Slack! – Nana Akomea
Nana Akomea, the Chief Executive Officer of the InterCity State Transport Corporation, has asked Ghanaians to cut the Minister of Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, some slack over the brouhaha about the sale of SSNIT hotels.
SSNIT has revoked its decision to sell 60% shares of its stake in some four hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s company, Rock City Hotel, following agitations from Organized Labour and a large section of the public.
The hotels namely Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel and Elmina Beach Resort are said to be in deplorable state and not yielding profits, reason for the intended sale to Rock City Hotel.
Following the revelation that Rock City Hotel had won the bid to buy the hotels, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a tough stance on this issue and blamed Bryan Acheampong as well as call out government for State capture.
But Nana Akomea, reacting to the stance of the NDC, has chronicled some accounts where the opposition party’s members have bought State properties.
“Tamale Guest House, there is a politician involved; high-profile NDC politician. Yes, it was sold to him. Sunyani Catering Guest House, it was sold to a top politician at that time. Cape Coast Hotel (Ridge Royal), who are the minority shareholders? They are politicians, NDC politicians who bought it. Kumasi Catering Guest House was also sold to a politician. In fact, the person who bought the Kumasi Guest House sold it to Bryan Acheampong”, this, he said, pointing out it is not unprecedented for Bryan Acheampong’s company to express interest in buying the SSNIT hotels.
Nana Akomea concluded in his submissions on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show that if, going forward, the yardstick is that no politicians should buy SSNIT properties, then it must apply to every person across the political divide; not Bryan Acheampong alone.
“The record shows that SSNIT has sold a lot of its properties from banks…[2] The record shows that many of them were bought by politicians…Let’s take it that today, we are saying SSNIT shouldn’t sell its properties, let’s take that decision. If we say no politician should buy SSNIT property, let’s take that decision and move. Let’s not politicize it!”
