‘Change Is Inevitable’ – Kokofu Calms NPP Supporters

Henry Kwabena Kokofu has sought to steady the nerves of the members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party following the party’s defeat in the December 7 general elections.

The NPP flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia polled a little above 4 million votes while his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress polled over 6 million votes.

Some NPP leading members have begun venting their spleen as they blame the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and the President’s cousin, Gabby Otchere-Darko for their defeat.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, the former Forestry Commission CEO, Henry Kokofu implored his party to let calm prevail while they engage in their election postmortem.

“Change is inevitable”, he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi and admitted that the party leadership is partly to blame for their election outcome, however, to him, they must limit the blame games and concentrate on rebuilding the party to win back the trust of Ghanaians.

He also advised against the violence that have been recorded in some parts of the country involving some NDC fanatics post-election.

“Ghana remains the sovereign State of Ghanaians. It is the property of Ghanaians. Anytime they want to change their voting, they will do it and hand the nation over to whoever they choose to lead them”, he cautioned the next government.
