Chaos in Parliament: ‘It Is Very Shameful’ – Chairman General
Peace FM’s broadcaster, Kwami Sefa Kayi has shared his thoughts on the recent clash between members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
On Thursday, January 30, a heated confrontation broke out between the majority and minority caucuses of the Appointments Committee leading to chaos during the vetting of two ministerial nominees, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for the Health Ministry and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for Foreign Affairs.
The chaotic scence was created after these two Ministers-designate were added to the nominees to be vetted on the day but the Minority complained about a breach of the day’s itinerary.
The two caucuses argued about whether or not to carry on the vetting with the majority members insisting the vetting must continue whereas the minority requested it should be postponed to Friday, January 31, 2025.
This altercation resulted in near fisticuffs.
Although they didn’t trade physical blows, the MPs destroyed their tables and microphones.
Following the incident, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin has suspended 4 MPs in the persons of Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (Majority Whip), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Minority Whip), Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli and Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
Commenting on the incident during an interview on his programme “Krokrokoo” as sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh asked his take, Kwami Sefa Kayi, affectionately called Chairman General, was disappointed by the MPs’ action.
Describing the incident as disgraceful, Chairman General questioned the “honorables” tag on the MPs as he wondered how persons reverred as such would engage in such violent misconduct.
“It’s very shameful!”, he exclaimed.
