Former CPP General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh has slammed the President, John Dramani Mahama, over the suspension of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo.
There are incessant calls for the dismissal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Some individuals have petitioned the President who forwarded it to the Council of Elders and a committee has been set up to address the petition.
In view of the pending hearing of the petition, the President has suspended the Chief Justice but the Ghana Bar Association, Organized Labour and the opposition New Patriotic Party among others have mounted a strident protest against the President’s decision.
Pressure is mounting on the President to revoke the suspension, nonetheless the Chief Justice’s fate remains the same.
Discussing the matter during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” morning show, James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly called Kabilla, has warned the President against dismissing the Chief Justice.
“It will be the first time under this 4th Republic, it is, that a President has suspended the Chief Justice.”
Further rebuking the President for what he believes is a bad precedent, he stated; “It is the first time under this 4th Republic that a President has set up a committee to investigate the Chief Justice when the President whilst a candidate with his legal team identified challenges in the constitution to cure and promised to cure same.”
