Court Adjourns Cecilia Dapaah’s Case To Jan 25
Former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s case at the Accra High Court has been adjourned to Thursday, January 25.
Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been dragged to court by the office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in relation to a request for her to declare her asset following a theft case involving her house-helps.
The Minister’s house-helps had been reported for stealing millions from her residence and after news broke about her storing money in the home, the Special Prosecutor developed interest in the case, thereby investigating her.
The OSP seeks to freeze and seize her bank accounts and assets.
The OSP announced the court decision saying;
Madam Dapaah’s lawyers, on October 10, 2023, filed an injunction application against the OSP arguing that per the court documents, should the OSP not be retrained, the former Minister will suffer irreparable damage.
“This Court is enjoined to balance the economic right of the affected persons against the State’s power to fight corruption. It is the Applicants’ considered view that they would suffer irreparable harm if the Respondent is not restrained pending the final determination of the substantive matter”, the application which is before an Accra Human Rights Court read.
This case filed against the OSP to restrict the Office from freezing Madam Dapaah’s accounts and seizing cash recovered from her residence has also been adjourned to February 1, 2024.
