Court Orders Anas Aremeyaw Anas To Remove His ‘Signature’ Mask
Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been ordered by a Court of Appeal to remove his famous mask in an ongoing legal tussle between him and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
By a unanimous decision on Thursday, January 30, 2025, the court says Anas must testify without a mask and the panel comprising Justices Anthony Oppong, Ackaah Boafo and Aboagye Tandoh argues that the journalist’s revealing his identity is to ensure fair trial.
During the ruling, Justice Ackaah Boafo also stated that a High Court decision that granted Anas’ request to keep his disguise in court despite a Supreme Court ruling instructing him to reveal his identity was an error.
“The doctrine of stare decisis binds lower courts to the decisions of higher courts, and as such, the High Court erred in revisiting an issue already settled by the Supreme Court”, the ruling said.
The former GFA President faces charges from Anas’ 2018 investigative documentary dubbed “The Number 12”.
Kwesi Nyantakyi is accused of corruption.
