Dec 7 Elections: NPP Ashanti Regional Elections Committee Presents Final Report To Chairman Wontumi

A Committee set up by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako alias Chairman Wontumi to investigate factors that led to the abysmal performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Region during the December 7 polls last year has presented its final report to the Regional executives.

The Committee chaired by former Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and comprising other key NPP members brought their expertise and insight to their assignment.

After weeks of deliberation, analysis and stakeholder interviews, the Committee presented its findings today, shedding light on what contributed to the party’s poor electoral outcome.

The report outlined several key areas of concern including grassroots’ engagement, voter turnout and the effectiveness of campaign strategies.

The Committee, during it’s eight weeks of investigations, visited all 47 constituencies to engage with party executives, stakeholders, identifiable groups and civil society groups to solicit their views on events that occurred before, during and after the December 7 elections.

Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, presenting the report, emphasized the need to learn lessons from their mistakes and build a stronger foundation for future elections.

He stated; “Our aim is not only to understand what went wrong but also to devise actionable strategies that will resonate with our supporters and the electorate as a whole. We owe it to our constituents to ensure their voices are heard and represented.”

The team also gave some recommendations for enhancing community outreach, improving communication channels and fostering greater collaboration among party members.

Additionally, the report highlighted the necessity to address any disconnect between the party leadership and the grassroots believing this is pivotal in regaining public trust.

Receiving the report during a Regional Executive Committee meeting, Chairman Wontumi commended the Committee for their excellent job, stressing the report will immensely help to in the re-organization of the party as it seeks to chart a new path towards the 2028 elections.

Chairman Wontumi stated copies of the report will be made available to all constituencies for deliberations.

He further revealed that after thorough study by the various constituency executives, another Regional Executive Committee meeting will be organized to discuss the findings and the recommendations.

“In moving forward, the Ashanti Regional party aims to learn from this experience, ensuring that they emerge stronger and more united for the challenges ahead.”
