E-Levy, Betting Tax ABOLISHED! Prez Mahama Signs Bill

President John Dramani Mahama has assented to the bill abolishing the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and betting tax including other taxes.

The President signed the bill in fulfillment of his promise to remove these taxes to ease the economic pressures on Ghanaians.

The E-Levy was introduced in 2022 and later a 10% betting tax by the previous NPP administration.

The E-Levy was designed to impose a 1.5% tax on electronic transactions such as mobile money transfers, bank transfers and online payments.

President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress promised to abolish these taxes and made it a huge campaign message ahead of winning the 2024 general elections.

To honor this promise, Parliament on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, passed a bill to abolish these controversial taxes and other nuisance taxes.

The President appending his signature to the bill brings the abolition of the taxes to immediate effect.
